Season, group size and how much driving the route involves all move these figures - which is exactly why it's worth having more than one agency quote the same trip rather than booking the first price you see. See our directory of agencies or request a quote once and compare what comes back.

Price by duration

  • 2 days / 1 night — the Zagora dunes, a shorter drive from Marrakech. The cheapest way to see the Sahara if Erg Chebbi isn't a must.
  • 3 days / 2 nights — the standard route to Merzouga's Erg Chebbi dunes, the ones most people picture when they think of the Sahara. The most-booked option from both Marrakech and Fes.
  • 4+ days — needed from Casablanca or Tangier, where the extra distance to the desert adds a full day of driving each way, or from Marrakech/Fes if you want a slower pace with more stops.

What's usually included - and what isn't

Usually included

  • Transport and driver-guide
  • One night at a desert camp
  • Camp dinner and breakfast
  • The camel trek to camp

Usually not included

  • Lunches and drinks along the route
  • Monument entrance fees
  • Local guides at each stop
  • Tips for driver and camel handlers

Ask each agency to put its exclusions in writing before you agree to anything - it's the single easiest way to avoid a quote that looks cheap and isn't, once the extras are added on the road.

Frequently asked

Is a private tour worth the extra cost?

For a solo traveller, usually not - the price gap is largest for one person. For a group of three or four splitting a private vehicle, the gap to a shared tour narrows considerably, and you gain control over pace and stops.

Does requesting a quote here cost anything?

No. Describing your trip and receiving offers is free for travellers. You pay the agency you choose, directly, and nothing passes through this site.

Why do prices vary so much between agencies for the "same" tour?

Mostly the desert camp: a shared tent with basic bedding costs less to run than a private tent with an en-suite bathroom, even on an identical route and schedule.
